Mimosa finally had her babies yesterday! Like we suspected, she had three, but unfortunately two of them did not make it. When I came in the barn to do morning chores, I found two of them dead. I don't know exactly what happened because there could have been so many things that could have caused their deaths. But... the one that is still alive is a buck!! He is doing very well, and is hobbling around like a newborn. :) He is super curious, and will walk right up to you if you put your fingers out. He looks just like his mamma: colors, pattern, and even personality! He is very tiny (because he was a triplet) but he is healthy and growing well. I will try to post pictures of him very soon.
He would do very well in show rings because of his Rosasharn bloodlines, and friendliness. I can have him registered and also tattooed (it will cost more) or tagged. Or both. He will automatically be tagged when he leaves our farm and it will not cost more. He will also have all his CT shots, and will be dehorned when he goes to his new home. Mimosa's due date is coming up fast. She is due on January 1st, and around Christmas Eve, I will put her in a separate pen in the barn. (Her kidding stall) Just in case she decides to have her babies/baby early. So that way I know they are all safe and warm.
I am currently working on a few sweaters for her babies because it helps them keep warm during the first few weeks of life. Especially when it is in January and it is super cold. All of the goats are doing well, and are all healthy. In the Fall all of them (except Minnie because she wasn't old enough) were tested for CL (Caseous Lymphadenitis) CAE (Caprine Arthritis Encephalitis) and Johnes disease. All the tests came back negative which was great. Mimosa was even treated for it which means they put a little of those diseases into her blood stream so that her body will recognize it and fight it off. So if she ever were to come in contact with any of those diseases, she could fight them off because her body would recognize the diseases and know how to treat it. Till next time! -Miriam S. |
